Climate Change Assembly Event September 2024

A council-facilitated, community-led climate change local engagement event marking five years since SDC declared a climate emergency, it will showcase progress and plans, as well as best practice in the District, and looks forward to further action involving everyone.

Main aims of the event:

  • To promote community engagement with action for climate and nature across the district, including schools
  • To provide a springboard for more action
  • To showcase local best practice

Day Schedule (all stalls and plenaries are located in the Council Chamber and are open to all):

10am-10.15am: Refreshments, stalls, networking.

10.15am-10.35am: Introduction & Welcome speech by Cllr Susan Juned (Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Climate Change) and Eleanor Warren (Climate Change Officer): Our five years of the Climate Emergency Plan: what has been achieved, and what still needs to be done.

10.35am-10.40am: The Climate Emergency: Five Years On, or Five Years of Climate Emergency? By Stephen Norrie (SCA/Net Zero)

10.40am -10.55am: Royal Shakespeare Company, Perspectives on Responding to the Climate Emergency, by David Tanqueray, Production Manager, and Elizabeth Freestone, Associate Director.

10.55am-11am: Break

11am - 11.55am: Parallel Sessions (these will be happening in break out rooms and need to be booked in ahead of time)

  1. Business and Sustainability: How can we enable businesses become more sustainable? (Please book your place to this session using the Eventbrite Link here)
  2. Food Action Strategy: How do we enable accessibility to local fresh produce? (Please book your place to this session using the Eventbrite Link here)
  3. Energy: How to reduce carbon emissions of the district related to heating our houses and community buildings? (Please book your place to this session using the Eventbrite Link here)

12.10pm-1.05pm: Parallel Sessions

  1. Harnessing Community Action: How can we engage our communities in reducing the impact of the climate emergency? (Please book your place to this session using the Eventbrite Link here)

2.05-3.00pm: Parallel Sessions

  1. Biodiversity and River Health: How do we increase biodiversity in our district? Looking at both biodiversity and water quality? (Please book your place to this session using the Eventbrite Link here)
  2. Litter and Waste: How do can we reduce waste in the district? (Please book your place to this session using the Eventbrite Link here)

3.15pm-4.15pm: Plenary chaired by Julie Lewis, Stratford-on-Avon District Council and Sarah Stear, Warwickshire County Council.

4.15pm-4.30pm: Closing remarks by Cllr Susan Juned.

4.30pm-5.00pm: Networking.

5.00pm: Close
