Napton's windmill is a prominent landmark. This is an unusual settlement in that the village circles the hill, but only the church and windmill were built on the summit. The busy Oxford Canal joins the Grand Union Canal at Napton Junction. The village as always been large, surviving whilst surrounding villages were depopulated. The older houses are are local sandstone and would once have had thatched roofs.
