The Housing Waiting List

Social housing - also known as affordable housing - is for people who cannot afford, or who cannot find, suitable housing to rent or buy on the open market.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council does not own any properties itself. All affordable housing in this area is provided by Housing Associations.

If you would like to be considered for a housing association property in this District, either to rent or to buy on a shared ownership basis, you must join the Common Housing Waiting List, sometimes referred to as a Common Housing Register. You will then be registered with all Housing Associations in the District. The Guide to the Housing Waiting List provides information about applying and describes how the Register operates.

To join the Waiting List, please contact the Council's Housing Advice Team (by telephoning 01789 260861/862, by emailing housingadviceteam@stratford-dc.gov.uk or by faxing 01789 260895) and ask for an application pack.

Alternatively, you may print off a Housing Waiting List Application form included to the right of this page, complete and return it to: The Housing Advice Team, Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warks, CV37 6HX.

When returning a Housing Waiting List Application, please ensure you provide all the relevant information as described in the 'Further Information Ticklist' provided to the right of this page. Incomplete applications cannot be processed.

HomeSwapper

If you are an existing tenant of a Council or Housing Association and would like to move to another town or District, you may be able to exchange properties with a social housing tenant who currently lives in your area of choice and also wishes to move. The organization HomeSwapper provides a service that can help you locate other tenants throughout the county who want to swap homes. More information is available on their website; please be aware that there is a fee for this service if your current social housing landlord is not already a member of HomeSwapper.
