The Rent Express Scheme, which is run by the Council's Housing Advice Team, provides cash deposits and rent in advance payments on behalf of tenants direct to landlords who are registered with the Scheme. The Scheme is free to use, and because it is not time-limited both the deposit and rent in advance payments will last for the length of the tenancy.
The Council will also act as guarantor for tenants using the Scheme.
Prospective tenants who want to use the Scheme must qualify to go on the Council's Housing Waiting List.
In order to be considered for the Rent in Advance payment, people must be eligible to receive full Housing Benefit. Eligibility for the Cash Deposit is limited to those who are either in receipt of a means tested benefit or are on low incomes, and so would qualify for some housing benefit.
