Please ensure that all recycling material is clean and dry and put LOOSE into your bin or box for collection. Please do not put your recycling items into plastic bags or refuse sacks, as materials need to be separated at the recycling facility.

  • Any excess recycling that you cannot fit in your bin can be placed in a rigid container, cardboard box or clear plastic sack next to your recycling wheeled bin. Alternatively, you can take it to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.
  • Textiles, household batteries and small electrical electrical items can be put into a standard carrier bag and placed next to or on top of your recycling bin.

Textiles, Small Electrical Equipment and Household Batteries

To use this service, please place each type of material into separate carrier bags, tie them up and place them alongside or on top of the lid (not inside) of your blue-lidded bin, green bin or grey bin on your scheduled collection day. If you do not have carrier bags, electrical items can be left loose and household batteries can be left in freezer/sandwich bags.

The refuse vehicles have been fitted with small compartments underneath the vehicles to store these items separately. To ensure that they can be collected and recycled, the items must be small enough to fit into a standard-sized carrier bag. Please note that the food waste collection vehicles are not equipped with the facility to collect these items.

If you think your items could be reused by someone else, you could take your electrical equipment to a reuse shop at one of the district's Household Waste Recycling Centres.

There are textiles banks at the Household Waste Recycling Centres, or you could donate them to a charity shop.

Car batteries can not be collected from the kerbside but they can be taken to a Household Waste Recycling Centre.
