Alcester

Alcester is one of the most understood Roman settlements in England.

It was originally built and is still where the River Alne meets the River Arrow, and at the cross roads of two important Roman routes; Ryknield Street from Cirencester, north to Tamworth, and the Salt Way from Droitwich east through Stratford upon Avon.

Architeturally it is a town with buildings dating back to early Tudor times and has the oldest inhabited house in Warwickshire.

Alcester has the most inhabitants of any Parish or Town Council outside Stratford, in the Stratford District of Warwickshire. Today Alcester has a strong and vibrant character with many local independant shops and a wealth of local attractions

Alcester Town Council has sixteen councillors and every year elects a Mayor and Deputy Mayor, who act as the Chairman and Deputy. The Council operates not only with monthly Council Meetings, but also with six committees; Planning, Amenities, Community, Recreation its executive Presidium, which is made up from the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Chairmen from the other five committees, and a Scrutiny Committee.

Vision for Alcester has developed a 'Vision for 2020', this document sets out the proposed development of Alcester including the provision of youth and community facitities. Currently this is a in the 3rd year of a 4 yerar plan to deliver new facilities and develop the vitality of the town.
