Great Alne is a village located 3 miles north-east of Alcester. It takes its name from the Celtic name for the River Alne 'Alwine', meaning bright or clear. Winchcombe Abbey in Gloucestershire held the estate before the dissolution of the monastries. St Mary Magdelene church is 13 Century with later additions and an octagonal bell turret. Great Alne Mill was mentioned in the domesday book.
