A small Roman settlement, Alcester today is a charming market town with many interesting buildings reflecting its prosperity. Although traces of Roman houses have been found in Swan Street and Stratford Road, much of the town centre is medieval.
Granted a charter in the 13th century, Alcester prospered throughout the 14th and 15th centuries making wool, linen and gloves as well as being at the centre of the needlemaking industry.
