There are currently a number of services for older people resident in the Stratford-on-Avon District. Some of these services are provided by the District Council but there are also many other services that are supported by the Council.
Below are details of some of these services:
At present, for those residents aged 60+, there is the option to have a bus pass. You will need to provide a current, colour, passport size photo and proof of age and address. Photographs can be taken at the Council offices if required. Telephone 01789 260891 for additional information.

For residents who have a genuine need for door-to-door community transport, the District Council supports the Community Links transport service in partnership with other organisations. The service operates across the District on Monday to Friday (9.30am - 2.30pm) excluding Bank Holidays. For more infomration click on the links below:-
For those residents aged 65 plus a parking pass for the Recreation Ground and Swan's Nest Lane car parks is available. An application form for this pass can be obtained by applying in person to the reception at any of the District Council offices. For more information click on the link below:
If you have mobility difficulties and would like free hire of a wheelchair or powered scooter, contact Shopmobility on 01789 414534 or click on link below:-
If you prefer to avoid driving in the Town Centre you might like to use the Park and Ride service, which is free of charge to all people over 60 with a bus pass. Further information is available from the link below:
Blue Badge holders can park free of charge in town centre District Council car parks, in Pay and Display bays as well as Disabled bays. All holders of this badge must read the parking signage before walking away from their vehicles. For more information, including how to apply for a badge please click on link below:
If you have difficulty moving your wheeled bins or recycling box you can ask for assistance from 01789 260616.
The Council has a service for collection of bulky items such as suites, chairs, cookers. There is a charge for this service. For more information click on the link below:
The Private Sector Housing Team provides help to enable people to remain in their homes and to live independently. Disability grants are available for those who need adaptations to their home and applications for discretionary grants can be made for improvements or repairs. If you live in rented accommodation the Council can intervene, if required, to ensure that your home meets certain standards laid down by legislation. The team also work closely with other agencies such as Age UK (formerly Age Concern) which provide a Handy Fix service for minor home repairs call 01926 458131 for information.
The Council supports Act on Energy who offer impartial advice and information on ways to save energy, and therefore money, within the home. I f you are over 70 years of age then you should qualify for free loft insulation, but please contact Act on Energy for more specific information on 0800 988 2881 or click on the link below:
For those who qualify for a state pension, concessionary rates are available at the Council's Leisure Centres, currently £1.40 at all sites. There are six forums across the District, Stratford-on-Avon, Shipston-on-Stour, Bidford-on-Avon, Alcester, Henley-in-Arden and Southam. They provide an opportunity for all aged 50+ to ‘have their say' on issues of concern to them. There is also time to meet socially and to access a wide range of information.
