Current Services for Older People

There are currently a number of services for older people resident in the Stratford-on-Avon District. Some of these services are provided by the District Council but there are also many other services that are supported by the Council. Here are details of some of those services:

Concessionary Transport: For those aged 60 plus there is the option of a bus pass. Please telephone 01789 260408 for full details.

Concessionary Car Parking Pass: For those aged 65 plus a free parking pass for the Stratford Recreation Ground car park is available. An application form for this pass can be obtained from the reception desks at District Council offices.

Refuse Collection Assistance: If you have difficulty carrying your 'recycling box' or moving your green 'wheelie' bin, you can ask for assistance from 01789 260616. If you don't have a green 'wheelie' bin, please contact us on 01789 260616.

Concessionary Rates at Leisure Centres: For those who qualify for a state pension, concessionary rates are available at the Council's leisure centres. Contact numbers are: Studley 01527 857161; Stratford-upon-Avon 01789 268826; Shipston 01608 662354 and Southam 01926 817788.

Home Improvement Agency: For those in need the agency offers advice and information to those who need to repair, improve or adapt their home. The Home Safety Check scheme is part of this service. Contact 01789 260848. The Council will, in the autumn of 2004, be launching a Care & Repair service for older people; details will be announced in the local press.

Also, the Council supports:

Warwickshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre who offer impartial advice and information on ways to save energy, and therefore money, in the home. Freephone 0800 512012.

Senior Citizens Action Network (SCAN). There are bi-monthly meetings of SCAN groups in Southam, Shipston, Henley, Bidford, Alcester and Stratford providing older people the opportunity to 'have their say' on issues of concern to them. Contact 01789 260108.

For further information please contact the Social Inclusion Officer on 01789 260108 or by email at socialinclusion@stratford-dc.gov.uk
