Stratford on Avon District Council continues to make progress towards the implementation of a new method for allocating social housing within the District.
In partnership with six Warwickshire and Worcestershire Local Authorities, we have developed a Choice Based Lettings allocation system for social housing.
Choice Based Lettings differs from the traditional housing waiting list in a number of ways:
- Vacant Properties will be advertised on the new system, called 'Home Choice Plus', giving applicants the option of expressing an interest in vacant properties that are suitable for their household's needs.
- Property advertisements will include a photo and information on the type of household it would be suitable for.
- Properties will be advertised in a variety of ways, including locally distributed newsletters, a recorded telephone line, and the internet
- Special arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the system is accessible to the more vulnerable applicants on the register.
- Once an applicant's eligibility for social housing has been confirmed, an allocation is made to the interested party with the highest priority who have been waiting the longest.
If you are currently registered on the Housing Waiting List, you will be receiving more details and a new shorter application form over the summer. If you have any worries or questions about the new arrangements please feel free to call the Housing Advice Team on 01789 260861/2 or email housingadviceteam@stratford-dc.gov.uk
The new Choice Based service will be available to applicants in Stratford District towards the end of the year.
