Refuse Collection

A grey wheeled bin is provided for the collection of refuse (that is general waste that cannot be recycled or composted).

For properties, such as flats and some terraced houses, black sacks are provided in place of grey wheeled bins. A maximum of 3 sacks will be collected per collection.

Real Nappies

Stratford District Council encourages the use of reusable nappies. Even if you are not able to switch completely, any reduction in the number of disposable nappies in your grey bin helps.

Warwickshire County Council's Cottton on to Cotton Nappies campaign provides information on washable nappies.

If you would like further information or support with using Real Nappies, you may also like to visit the Go Real website or phone 0845 850 0606.

What happens to your general waste?

Currently, refuse collected from households in the district is either taken to a landfill site in Bubbenhall or an Energy from Waste facility at Coventry.

We are working hard to reduce this sort of waste. You can help us by putting all recyclable and compostable materials in one of your other bins.

Why can't we keep sending waste to landfill?

There used to be plenty of space in landfill sites in the UK and 'landfilling' was a cheap and convenient way of managing waste.

However, we are now running out of landfill space and Government Landfill Tax is rising so steeply that it is no longer an affordable option. In addition, tough targets to divert waste from landfill mean we must develop other waste treatment and disposal options.

By diverting waste materials away from landfill we are maximising the potential for reuse, recycling and recovery of valuable resources. As well as these environmental benefits, minimising waste sent to landfill can save council taxpayers millions of pounds each year.
