The Audit Commission is an independent public body responsible for ensuring that public money is spent economically, efficiently and effectively. Every two years, the Council participates in a National Fraud Initiative which is the Audit Commission's data matching exercise, designed to tackle a broad range of fraud risks faced by the public sector. For this purpose, the current exercise has been extended to include information from both the electoral register and council tax records which may help to identify incidents of potential fraud. This information will be securely transmitted by the Council to the Audit Commission's IT system. For further details, please refer to the website http://www.audit-commission.gov.uk/nfi/.
