Welford-on Avon is 4 miles downstream from Stratford-upon-Avon. The pretty village is situated south of the river which meanders around it in a large loop. There is an attractive mixture of timber and thatch, stone and brick buildings. The distinctive maypole has been on the village green since Shakespear's time. A walk up Cress Hill provides panoramic views of the river and surrounding countryside.
