Certain accidents at work must be notified through the Incident Contact Centre. These include those resulting in death, fractures, over 3 day's absence from work, and accidents where members of the public are taken directly to hospital. These are investigated where appropriate and action taken where necessary. Slips and trips are the most common cause of injuries at work and cost over £300 million a year in lost production and other costs. Falls from height are the most common cause of fatal injury and the second most common cause of major injury to employees, accounting for 15% of all such injuries.
